Note: Policies apply for domestic and international flights unless otherwise stated.
Pre-board security screening process
- Checked baggage containing items that are prohibited onboard an aircraft may be opened by authorized security screeners for further inspection.
- Your attention to what items are considered restricted will help in expediting the checked baggage screening process and will minimize the potential that you or your baggage will be delayed.
- Allowed: Liquids, gels, or aerosols in containers 100 mls / 90 g (3.4 oz) or less. These containers MUST be placed in one (1) clear, closed and re-sealable plastic bag no larger than one quart. ONE BAG PER PERSON.
- Prohibited: Unsealed, open, or opaque plastic bags of any size with liquids, gels, or aerosols in containers of any size. Liquids, gels, or aerosols in containers larger than 100 mls / 90 g (3.4 oz).
- Items exempt from restrictions (these items must be declared to security screeners) - Baby formula, baby food and milk for Customers travelling with children two years of age and under and prescription and essential non-prescription medicines. These items do not require a plastic bag, but may require additional screening.

Special Items Allowed Onboard
- Identification: Should be packed in carry-on baggage.
- Medication: Please take any medication you may need on the flight with you. All medication in carry-on baggage should have a professional pharmaceutical label on the container. Medical syringes must have the needle guard intact.
- Keys: Keys may be packed in carry-on baggage, however they may not hold any item which is prohibited.
- Jewelry: Should be packed in carry-on baggage.
- Wrapped items: Wrapped items may be opened for inspection when brought as carry-on. Please leave your packages unwrapped.
- Musical instruments: Although seats may not be purchased for instruments, we will accept small instruments as part of the carry-on baggage allowance. Exceptions may be made for irregular sized instruments, however all instruments will be stowed in the overhead compartment, under the seat or in other approved locations. This is left to the discretion of the cabin crew and Customer service agent upon checking the flight and baggage loads. Instruments may also be accepted in checked baggage when they are properly packed. Applicable excess fees will apply.
- Seafood or perishables: If you are planning to bring fish, seafood or perishable items, please contact our Call Center at U.S. (toll free) 1-866-988-3527 or Mexico (toll free) 01-800-122-8000 directly for packaging information.
- Camera film: Should be packed in carry-on baggage, as screening machines for checked baggage may affect film. Film below ISO 800 won't be harmed by carry-on screening machines; however, you can request a hand inspection.
- Home-made alcohol: Home-made alcohol is not permitted in checked baggage or as carry-on baggage, as the alcohol content cannot be verified.
- Electrical devices:
- Cellular telephones cannot be used at any time while in flight.
- Any laptop computers or electrical items will need to be removed from their carrying case at the security gate and will be x-rayed.
- The following electrical devices are permitted onboard: Voice recorders, calculators, laptop computers, handheld CD players, handheld electronic devices, computer games, and photographic equipment.
Seafood or perishables
- Perishable items can be transported as carry-on luggage or billed pieces, at the client’s own responsibility, as long as the established conditions set forth in this section are met, and in accordance with the laws and regulations applicable to the region or country where the flight takes place. The airline reserves the right to accept these kinds of goods if they don’t meet any or all of the conditions henceforth.

- Serum solutions
- Terms and Conditions:
- Fruits and Vegetables: These goods can damage or stain other baggage, which is why they must meet the following conditions:
- They must have an internal plastic wrapping (bags) and be placed in an external firm container (such as cardboard, rigid plastic, wood, Styrofoam, etc.)
- External container covers must be fastened with plastic tape.
- Products requiring dry ice (solid CO2) must use a maximum of 2.5 Kg. of this product per client (only as carry on luggage) as long as the piece has several air holes allowing for the liberation of the carbon dioxide gas.
- Meats and seafood: These goods can damage or stain other baggage, which is why they must meet the following conditions:
- They must have rigid plastic containers (iceboxes)
- The container may not be torn, broken or show damage that could lead to leaking
- Container covers must be fastened with a plastic tape
- In case Styrofoam iceboxes are used (polyestyrene), a perfectly sealed plastic bag must be wrapped outside of it
- Products requiring dry ice (solid CO2) must use a maximum of 2.5 Kg. of this product per client (only as carry on luggage) as long as the piece has several air holes allowing for the liberation of the carbon dioxide gas.
- Note: To transport fish and dry seafood, it is necessary to have a container that will also contain the smell.
- Dairy and serum solution related products: These goods can damage or stain other baggage, which is why they must meet the following conditions:
- Firm plastic containers (iceboxes)
- The container may not be torn, broken or show damage that could lead to leaking
- Container covers must be fastened with a plastic tape
- In case Styrofoam iceboxes are used (polyestyrene), a perfectly sealed plastic bag must be wrapped outside of it
- Products requiring dry ice (solid CO2) must use a maximum of 2.5 Kg. of this product per client (only as carry on luggage) as long as the piece has several air holes allowing for the liberation of the carbon dioxide gas.

We will take one cardboard box as part of your allowed baggage at no cost if:
- The box does not exceed 50 lbs
- The box is in good condition.
- The box was not used to transport eggs or dangerous materials.

Sporting equipment allowances
- Any sports equipment is considered as regular baggage. All fees apply.
- We take sports equipment (Golf, cycling, surf boards, fishing, hunting, skiing, diving, bowling, etc.) It must be properly packed and not exceed 110 lbs (50 kgs).
- Diving tanks must be empty.
- Every sports weapon must be declared at the check-in counter and follow every process required by law. Sporting weapons are not allowed on international flights.
- Any overweight, oversized or extra baggage restrictions apply.

Skis, snowboards, fishing rods and golf clubs
- One set will be accepted per guest.
- A set is considered to be:
- Skis, boots and poles, or
- Snowboards and boots, or
- Water skis (up to two) or
- One fishing rod and a tackle box or
- One golf bag, holding clubs, shoes and balls.
- Fishing rods must be encased in a hard shell cylinder fishing rod container.
Golf clubs
- Must be sturdy enough to provide adequate protection to the contents.
- Must have an attached hood to protect club heads.
- Golf clubs, balls and shoes are to be packed in a suitable golf bag.
- Golf bags with built in tripods will require the legs to be taped or secured to the bag.
Football equipment
- One helmet, a football, a set of pads, and a pair of cleats are included as part of one accepted set.
Bicycles
- Each guest is permitted to bring one bicycle, but all applicable excess fee will be charged per bike (extra piece, overweight or oversize).
- The guest must provide a box or bike bag, and pack the bicycle by turning the handle bars, partially deflating the tires and removing the pedals.
- Any bicycle containing hydraulic fluid or mineral must be packed to prevent leakage.
Skateboards and scooters
- Skateboards and fold-up scooters (non-motorized) are accepted, but they must be packed to prevent any damage.
Scuba gear
- One set of scuba gear is accepted but all applicable excess fees will be charged per set (extra piece, overweight or oversize).
- Cylinders containing compressed air or a special gas mixture are prohibited.
- Volaris only accepts empty/emptied cylinders (pressure gauge must read zero).
- Tank valve must be open.
- Diving lamps must be disconnected, with the terminals taped over to prevent accidental functioning during transport.
Sports racquets
- Sports racquets are permitted in carry on baggage when they are within the sizing restrictions, however they must be properly packaged to prevent damage.
Surfboards
- Will be accepted in checked baggage when under 6.6 ft (2 m) long.
- All boards must have the skeg/fin removed, be padded and packed properly to prevent damage to the board and other baggage.
Interline transfer of baggage
- Volaris does not currently have any interline agreements with other airlines. If you are using Volaris as part of your flight plans and another airline to continue or complete your journey, you will need to collect your baggage and check it in for your connecting flight(s).
Delayed or damaged baggage
- You must report lost or damaged baggage prior to leaving the sterilized area within the airport.
- Please note: Volaris’ maximum liability for carry-on baggage is limited to about $2,200 MXN*. Maximum liability for checked baggage is limited to about $4,100 MXN*. Compensation based on minimum general salary in force in Mexico City at the time of claim.
- Money, jewelry, securities, electronics, medicines, perishable items, liquid or fragile items, guns, gasses, flammable substances, corrosives, magnets, etc. are excluded.

Volaris baggage guarantee
- If your luggage does not arrive with you on your same flight, we will provide you with an electronic credit that corresponds to the fare policy you purchased.
- Credit is non-transferable and valid for 90 days from the day it is received. Not available with other promotions. Credit may be obtained by contacting our Call Center at U.S. (toll free) 1-866-988-3527 or Mexico (toll free) 01-800-122-8000.
- This guarantee does not apply to any standby baggage.
- Baggage guarantee only applies for Mexican flights.
Lost and found items
- Although Volaris is not responsible for lost or misplaced items, we'll do our best to assist. Here is what you can expect from us:
- If we locate your item, we will keep it at the Volaris Offices at the airport where it was found for 7 days.
- If your lost item has been found, you will be instructed to call Volaris at the local airport to arrange to pick it up.
